Joseph Oehmke


Joe advises clients on a variety of risk management, regulatory-compliance, and corporate-governance matters.


Joe helps some of the world's largest and most innovative companies develop and implement a variety of compliance programs. His work includes advising on strategic and regulatory considerations related to blockchain and other financial-technology developments, privacy and data protection, U.S. bank licensing and chartering, and general risk management and corporate-governance matters. He began his career in the office of the director at the U.S. Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Representative Engagements

  • Led programs for implementing compliance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation for U.S.-based multinational retail and life-sciences companies, as well as advised a large Chinese technology company on GDPR considerations. 
  • Advised a consortium of European banks and consumer-services firms on the design and GDPR implications of its blockchain-based payments solution. 
  • Advised a European international private bank on licensing options and strategic and regulatory considerations related to its intended entry into the U.S. market.
