5/6/14 - Messages in Another Year of ICO Monetary Penalties

The U.K. Information Commissioner’s Office in 2013 served fewer organizations with penalties than it did the year before, imposed smaller fines in the aggregate, and lost two of three appeals of penalties imposed in 2012. But beyond the numbers, the ICO’s second year offered a clearer vision of how the ICO may shape business practices in the future. 

The ICO, which in March signed a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission that outlined their common pursuit of consumer privacy, remains in the vanguard of a global regulatory push for higher standards in information and data protection.
