6/8/15 - William Lang Joins Promontory

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 8, 2015 — William Lang, who led the supervision of banking organizations for the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia and previously oversaw special studies at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, has joined Promontory Financial Group as a managing director. Lang will concentrate on risk management, model validation, stress testing, and capital planning. Promontory is a global leader in strategy, risk management, and regulatory-compliance consulting.

“Bill is an authority on financial risk management and an expert in quantitative analysis,” said Eugene Ludwig, Promontory’s founder and chief executive officer. “I am delighted that he has joined us, and I know his experience and talents will prove invaluable to our clients.”

Before joining Promontory, Lang spent 13 years at the Philadelphia Fed, where he most recently served as executive vice president and lending officer for supervision, regulation, and credit. In this role, he oversaw retail risk analysis, banking surveillance, capital markets, credit risk management, regulatory applications, and the structure of financial institutions. Lang was previously the Philadelphia Fed’s chief examinations officer. In 2010, he oversaw the risk and surveillance units at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. Lang also served for nine years at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, as an economist and the OCC’s director of special studies, a unit that analyzed public-policy issues tied to new technology used in financial services.

Lang has been a faculty member in the economics department at Rutgers University and is currently a fellow of the Wharton Financial Institutions Center. He has written dozens of peer-reviewed articles and academic works. Lang received a doctorate in economics from Yale University and a bachelor’s degree from the City College of New York.
