5/12/16 - French Senate Proposes Data Localization

Myriam Gufflet, an associate in Promontory’s Privacy and Data Protection Practice, authored a post for IAPP’s “Privacy Tracker” blog on proposed legislation in France that “would create a number of new obligations and General Data Protection Regulation-like requirements before the GDPR comes into effect on 25 May 2018.”

The post said that one of the French Senate’s recent amendments is a provision requiring “the storage of personal data in data centers located in the European Union, and prohibiting the transfer of personal data to a non-EU third country.”
