John Bowman, a senior principal in Promontory’s privacy and data protection team, authored the second of a two-part Data Privacy Asia Newsletter article about how the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation will affect countries in Asia (part one can be found here).

“Other mechanisms need to be in place for a transfer of data relating to people in the EU to be made to a third country — including those in Asia — such as standard contractual clauses, approved bespoke contractual arrangements, approved codes of conduct/certification mechanisms, and binding corporate rules (BCRs) which for the first time are formally recognised in the legislative framework.”
