9/15/17 - A Closer Look With Arthur Levitt: Mary Schapiro [AUDIO]

Mary Schapiro, vice chair of Promontory’s advisory board and the former chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, was interviewed by Arthur Levitt, also a former chairman of the SEC, for a Bloomberg podcast that covered a number of issues affecting the financial services industry.

Levitt asked Schapiro whether she thought that any rollback of post-crisis financial reforms should be modest, a sentiment echoed last month by Federal Reserve Board Chair Janet Yellen and President of the European Central Bank Mario Draghi at the annual bankers’ conference in Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

Schapiro agreed. “There are undoubtedly things that can be done to fine-tune the vast regulatory infrastructure that was put in place post-crisis, but all in all, I think the reforms have served us well,” Schapiro said.

She also discussed some of the benefits of the Financial Stability Oversight Council and how she thinks the structure of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau might change.
