Mr. Alt advises clients on compliance, enterprise risk management, governance, and regulatory communications, with a particular expertise in retail lending. Before joining Promontory, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Public Policy Officer at Providian Financial Corp. and as a Senior Vice President at Golden West Financial Corp., the parent company of World Savings.

Mr. Alt’s public service includes positions as counsel to the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, where he participated in legislative efforts to resolve the savings and loan crisis, strengthen the deposit insurance system, and improve consumer protection in financial services; and as Chief of Staff and Senior Deputy Comptroller for Economic Analysis and Public Affairs at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

Mr. Alt holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School, where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review, a Master’s in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a B.A. in Political Science from Reed College.
