C. Erik Larson

Director

Mr. Larson provides clients with solutions in areas including quantitative risk management, regulatory and economic capital modeling, model validation, and governance. Mr. Larson has vast experience in developing and validating the models used by financial institutions to measure and manages risk. His exposure to a broad range of modeling practices at numerous institutions allows him to concretely identify and implement best-practice standards for quantitative modeling efforts.

Prior to joining Promontory, Mr. Larson served as Director of Economic Capital for Fannie Mae, where he oversaw the measurement and allocation of capital requirements for the company’s $2.6 trillion book of business. Mr. Larson also served as Senior Financial Economist and Lead Enterprise Risk Expert in the Risk Analysis Division of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, and contributed to several efforts to develop the proposed US implementation of the Basel II regulatory capital reforms. At the OCC, Mr. Larson led the quantitative portions of several reviews of bank risk management practices; he also was a member of the interagency Basel II Guidance Development Committee, and helped to develop and teach curricula for examiner training in the Basel II Advanced IRB Credit Risk and AMA Operational Risk approaches. Prior to joining the OCC, Larson analyzed and developed individual and corporate income tax policy in the Office of Tax Analysis at the United States Treasury.

Mr. Larson's research focuses on statistical and econometric issues in the modeling of risk and economic capital. He taught courses on probability, statistics, and econometrics while on the faculty of the University Of Southern California School Of Business Administration. In addition, he has served as a Tax Advisor to the Government of Poland, and privately has provided statistical consulting services to a number of firms.

Mr. Larson holds a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University, with a specialization in applied econometrics and statistics, and a B.A., summa cum laude, from Syracuse University. He was chosen one of twelve Syracuse University Scholars in 1983 (a valedictorian award) and attended Cornell on a prestigious New York State Herbert H. Lehman Graduate Fellowship.
